Department of Dance

The Department of Dance of Umed School is the oldest Activity Department. The students learn Indian classical dance forms, with special emphasis on the dance forms of Kathak and Kuchipudi, along with different Indian folk dances. The department also has a dance club; the two work in tandem to hone the ability, skill and confídence of the students. Various seminars and interactive sessions with great dance gurus and music maestros are arranged for the students to better their understanding of Indian classical dance.

Department of Animation & Game Development

In this department, students learn how to create digital drawing, edit and enhance photographs, create animation and design & develop computer games.

Department of Dramatics

Young actors are taught how to approach their role and portray their character to the best of their ability. The department is also home to the theatre club ‘Parvaz’. With the skills they learn and hone, students regularly put up spectacular theatre performances in various functions in the school.

Department of Electronics & Robotics

The Electronics & Robotics Lab is well equipped, where the students are able to refine their skills in electronics, automation and robotics. This permits them to make high calibre automation instruments featuring wireless control of electronic devices from various sources. The Electronics & Robotics Department of the school has been instrumental in inculcating scientific attitude and temper.

Department of Fashion & Jewellery Designing

This course, introduced in 2004, offers a comprehensive education in designing for students aspiring to a career in the rapidly growing Fashion industry. The Department of Fashion Technology aims to equip students with a unique blend of technical and theoretical knowledge in the fields of textile designing, accessory designing and fashion styling.

Department of Graphics (Print-Making)

One of the newest departments in the Technology Block of Umed School, the Graphics Department was set up in 2003. The teaching of this subject centres on printmaking. There are various media used in printmaking such as Linoleum, New-wood, PVC sheet and plywood which are enhanced by carving tools. The prints can be mono-prints or multi-colours. It is an enjoyable subject that has fast become a favourite amongst the students.

Department of Home Science & Interiors

Home Science is a versatile subject and forms the basis of planned lifestyle management, both scientifically and aesthetically. Home Science is a productive and creative activity that not only helps students enhance their fine motor skills but also helps them learn a number of life skills like cooking, general health and hygiene and interior decoration. The Department aims at holistic development of its students.

Department of Music (Indian Instrumental)

The Department of Instrumental Music (Indian) aims to promote classical Indian instruments, like the sitar and flute, amongst the younger generation. In this department, our young classical musicians have mesmerized many with their euphonious melodies on countless school events. Apart from performing at school functions, students of the department regularly participate in various music festivals and competitions, bringing laurels to the school through their amazing talents.

Department of Music (Vocal)


The Department of Vocal Music at Umed School aims to spread musical awareness amongst the students. It gives exposure to the talented and upcoming singers of the school, offering them the opportunity to perform at various events and school gatherings. The aim of the department is to realize and develop the musical potential of budding performers is developed by the Department. Singers and musicians of this department enthrall the audiences with their splendid performances at every major school event.

Department of Music (Western)

The department was set up in 1993. Students are taught various instruments such as the guitar, the keyboard, the bass guitar and the drums. Students are encouraged to achieve only not mastery over technical skills, but also to play soulstirring music with passion. In addition, students learn about the evolution of music and have other interactive sessions where their music appreciation is fine-tuned. Each student is made to sing in order to develop his or her confidence and stage presence.

Department of Paper Technology & Calligraphy


The Paper Tech Department of the Department of Creative Skills in effect began in the year 2000 with the setting of the paper recycling plant. Under the artistic acumen , the students learn the new techniques and forms of art related to paper recycling.

The Department teaches students activities like origami, papier-mâché, stenciling, quilling, paper sculpture, paper weaving, mottled paper making, calligraphy, paper mosaics, sculptures. The students learn to make beautiful carry bags, file covers, pen stands, lamp shades, desk top accessories, flowers, and so much more.

The Paper tech department teaches students to recycle paper and make beautiful stationery and other productive material. The Department also not only conducts workshops for the students of the school but also for other schools. The amazing display of creativity of the Department of Paper tech can be seen on the occasion of all-important events and functions of the school, be it the Independence Day or the Founder’s Day.

Department of Photography


In this department, students learn technical aspects which emphasizes on the importance of capturing the emotion of the subject of the photograph. Regular workshops, camps and trips to various cultural and heritage sites are organised for the students with the intention of initiating a more practical approach towards the subject of photography. The students hold an annual exhibition of their best photographs of the year, on topics of social, moral and cultural values.

Department of Sculpture, Pottery & Woodcraft

Umed School’s Sculpture department explores varied forms of three-dimensional art such as modelling, carving, casting and construction. Students use diverse materials and hone different techniques like wood carving, clay modelling, plaster of Paris casting, fíberglass casting, cement casting, terracotta and iron sculpture.
